Proposals to temporarily lay off four operational staff at Waterford Airport from next Monday have now been put on hold.
The move comes after the trade union Unite balloted its members at the airport for industrial action this morning.
Unite represents seven of the nine ground staff at the aiport - all of its members voted in favour of some sort of action were management to go ahead with the layoffs.
Unite Regional Officer Tony Kelly said he was contacted by airport management shortly after the vote, who informed him the proposal was being shelved.
He said he was told 'things had moved on' in the last few days and there was a 'window of opportunity in terms of a new carrier'.
Meanwhile, a Tramore councillor has expressed his deep concern over the viability of Waterford Airport.
Independent Joe Conway said he had been contacted by worried constituents, expressing doubts about its future.
Cllr Conway said he has asked the Mayor to hold a special meeting of the Council to clarify openly all matters of concern in the Airport.
