The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) has released their official new vehicle registrations statistics for 2025.

Total new car registrations for 2025 reached 124,954, representing a 3 per cent increase when compared to 2024 (121,316).

In Waterford there were 2,683 new car registrations in 2025 compared to 2,538 in 2024.

This represents a 5.71 per cent increase

There were 478 electric car registrations compared to 375 in 2024.

This represents a 27.47 per cent increase.

Overall, the five top new model cars in 2025 were:

1 HYUNDAI TUCSON

2. SKODA OCTAVIA

3. KIA SPORTAGE

4. TOYOTA YARIS CROSS

5. TOYOTA RAV 4

The five top selling new Electric Vehicles (EVs) Car Brands were:

1. VOLKSWAGEN

2. KIA

3. TESLA

4. HYUNDAI

5. SKODA
