The cost of illegal dumping and waste collection in Waterford is placing a hefty financial burden on Waterford City and County Council with the cost, estimated to be around one million euro per year.
The matter was raised at this month’s Metropolitan Council meeting by Fine Gael councillor Frank Quinlan.
He questioned the council executive on the spend, so far this year for illegal dumping and waste collection across Waterford.
Councillor Quinlan remarked “you see truck loads of rubbish being taken out of different estates” and requested the figures.
Responding, Senior Engineer Paul Johnston said the combined costs of illegal dumping and waste collection comes to around one million euro per year.
However, Mr Johnston went onto remark this cost is for standard clean-ups and does not include additional costs if a substantial issue is discovered.
