Hundreds of people are continuing to attend events in dwellings despite Covid-19 restrictions, according to a Garda update.
Over 2,700 fines have been issued to date to people attending or organising house parties.
This number includes 554 fines of €500 for organising a house party — 205 of which were issued this month — and 2,159 fines of €150 for attending a house party — 726 of which were issued this month.
In a statement, An Garda Síochána said officers were continuing to find groups gathering for house parties, social gatherings and group exercise in breach of public health regulations.
“These are not just breaches of regulations, but are a risk to the individuals involved, their families and loved ones, and continue to put everybody’s health and the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic at risk,” the statement said.
Non-essential travel
In an update on fines issued for breaches of Level 5 restrictions, gardaí said a total of 16,834 fines have now been distributed across a range of breaches.
The vast majority are related to non-essential travel beyond the current five-kilometre exercise limit, with 12,336 fines of €100 issued for this breach.
A further 721 fines of €500 have been handed out for non-essential journeys to airports or ports, while 313 fines of €100 have been issued for non-essential travel by people not ordinarily resident in the State.
Gardaí have also issued 293 fines of €80 to people not wearing a face covering in required settings.
Officers are set to continue nationwide checkpoints and high visibility patrols this weekend in support of public health regulations.
