The HSE says the process of rebuilding its IT system following last week's cyberattack will take "some time" to complete.

It's currently contacting thousands of patients to reschedule appointments that've had to be cancelled.

All outpatient and endoscopy services, along with the majority of radiology services such as MRIs, CT scans and x-rays, and elective inpatient and day case procedures are affected at University Hospital Waterford.

Meanwhile, the health service is refusing to comment on the ransom figure being demanded for the release of its data.

In a statement issued to WLR, the South-South West Hospital Group said:

The ongoing cyber-attack on the HSE’s IT system has resulted in considerable delays at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) Emergency Department and on the hospital's ability to deliver normal outpatient services.

This challenging situation is ongoing.

As a result, management at the UHW and at Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny (KROH) wish to advise the public that the following services are cancelled for the coming week :

  • All outpatient clinics
  • All diagnostics including x-ray, CT scans, MRI appointments and cardiac investigations
  • Endoscopy services
  • All elective inpatient and day case procedures

A small number of procedures may go ahead and in this event, patients will be contacted directly.

Management at UHW would like to remind the public that the Emergency Department is for emergency services only.

Further status updates will be issued in due course.
