An unannounced HIQUA inspection took place at Dungarvan Community Hospital on March 27th of this year.

At the time, 88 residents were present at the 102-person capacity home.

The report found the home to be non-compliant in two areas of Governance and Management and Infection Control.

Overall the inspector found that the provider had not taken all necessary steps to ensure national compliance following non-compliance in infection prevention and control at a previous unannounced visit in December 2023.

The report also found that the governance of infection control was not sustainable.

The inspector followed up on the provider's progress with the completion of the actions from a previous inspection, with the hospital endeavoring to improve existing facilities and physical infrastructure

Staff working in the centre had managed a small number of outbreaks and isolated cases of COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic, however regular infection prevention and control audits were not undertaken.

However, the report found that the facility was compliant in several areas including visits, notification of incidents, and individual assessment and care plans.

Overall, the inspector was assured that the quality of service and quality of care received by residents was of a good standard.
