Thousands of Leaving Certificate students received their results this morning. Almost seventeen hundred sat the exam in Waterford including students from De La Salle College in the city.
Students Fionn McGrath and George Lyons (pictured above center-right) both scored over six hundred points and spoke to WLR News at the school this morning.
Fionn said, "Massive celebrations absolutely huge. I went down to the sitting room opened the results and started crying tears of joy. I am delighted I got my H1 so I am happy out."
George spoke to WLR saying, "Like Fionn Said, we got to spend the year surrounded by guys who want to do really well. It's fantastic and I essentially did as well as I could have done, and I have enough points that I can go and follow my dreams."
De La Salle Principal, Tom Burke (pictured above), remembered past student Avu Idris who tragically died in an e-scooter incident in recent months and would have collected his results today.
"It's very important today to remember Avu. Unfortunately, he passed away some time ago in a tragedy locally, and while we think of all our boys who done us so proud today, we must remember Avu and his family and I suppose it gives us an opportunity to reflect on all the opportunities the boys have going forward in life."
There were celebrations also at Mount Secondary School in the city, with several students scoring high and hoping to go on to further studies in Waterford and further afield.
