Girl still being treated for life-altering injuries after Kilkenny hijacking

UPDATE: A girl, understood to be 16 years of age, has been transferred from University Hospital Waterford to Dublin, following Friday's hijacking in Kilkenny. 

She was a backseat passenger in a car parked on Green Street in Kilkenny City, when it was stolen by a man at approximately 3.30pm.

The man in his 30s then appeared drove in the direction of the N77, where he crashed the car minute later on a stretch near Hennebry's Cross, between the city and Ballyragget.

He was later pronounced dead in St Luke's Hospital, while the teenager had to be airlifted to University Hospital Waterford.

Her injuries are understood to no longer be life-threatening, but rather life-altering, after she underwent two rounds of surgery.

WLR News understands she has since been transferred from UHW to the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

The three occupants of the second car involved in the collision (two people in their 40s, and one in his 60s), suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with dash-cam or CCTV footage around the incident to contact them in Kilkenny on 056 7775000.
