A three-year-old girl has died in a road traffic accident in Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir this afternoon.
The incident happened at around 4.30pm and happened in the Castle Heights housing estate in Carrickbeg.
The girl is understood to have been near her house when she was struck and fatally injured by a bus.
Emergency services including a helicopter attended the scene.
She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Her body was removed from the scene to the mortuary in South Tipperary General Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.
The male bus driver was treated by emergency services at scene.
The Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are en route to the scene of the incident, which is being treated as a tragedy. The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them. They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the housing estate at the time of the collision, to make this footage available to Gardaí.
