Gardaí in Waterford are reminding the public that Operation Tombola is in effect ahead of Halloween.

It’s in a bid to clamp down on various instances of anti-social behaviour, including the supply of illegal or unlicensed fireworks.

As part of Operation Tombola, a search was conducted at a property in Waterford City on Thursday.

Gardaí recovered a sizeable amount of fireworks (pictured).

“It is important to reaffirm that fireworks are illegal and unsafe,” An Garda Siochana said in a statement.

Speaking to WLR this week, Inspector Shay Keevans from Waterford Garda Station said there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in parts of the city in the lead up to Halloween.

He added that parents have a key role to play in ensuring they know the whereabouts of their children at all times.

“Parents are dropping kids off at an outdoor location and collecting them a few hours later,” he said.

“You need to be aware that unfortunately when kids get into a large group they may be up to no good.”
