Gardaí have issued an image of how missing Imelda Keenan may look now as a woman aged in her fifties.

The 22-year old was last seen on Lombard Street in Waterford City on January 3rd 1994, having left her apartment on William Street.

The case was the subject of a renewed appeal for information on last night's 'Crimecall' on RTÉ One and featured a reconstruction of Imelda's last known movements and an interview with her brother Gerry.

Speaking to presenter Carla O'Brien, Superintendent Gavin Hegarty from Waterford Garda Station explained that the new image has been produced as Gardaí are "open to every avenue" in relation to investigating her disappearance.

Supt Hegarty asked that anyone who recognises anyone resembling the woman in the image contact Gardaí.

He added that it's also "reasonable" to consider that Imelda is not alive.

"If that is the case, and Imelda is deceased, we're trying to find out where she might be and how she met her demise," he said.

"We want to bring closure for the Keenan family."

In October, members of Imelda's family met with Gardaí to discuss a possible upgrading of the investigation into her disappearance to a murder investigation.

However, Gardaí said the case is not being upgraded but is being reviewed and the investigation remains active.
