Gardaí are investigating a fatal assault on a man in his 50’s in County Waterford.

A man in his 20’s has been arrested.

Garda and ambulance services were call to a house in Portlaw at 2:45.

The victim was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford, where he was pronounced dead

The suspect was arrested at the scene by Gardaí and is detained at Tramore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Speaking to WLR News, Sinn Féin Councillor for the area Declan Clune says the village is in shock.

“Details are still emerging, but I can say I would know one of the families involved. This is a terrible tragedy for the village of Portlaw.”
