Gardaí and emergency services responded to a reported assault at a residential area in Greenfields, Waterford city that occurred shortly after 7:00pm this evening.

A female in her late 20s was brought to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries, not believed to be life-threatening.

A male was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.

The scene is preserved for examination by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.
