The Garda Commissioner has apologised to two young men who sustained serious injuries from an acid attack in Waterford City two years ago.
The Sunday Times reports that Drew Harris' apology comes after gardai failed to consult them, before deciding their attackers would be dealt with by a juvenile diversion programme.
Two years ago Tega Agberhiere and his friend Pádraig Sullivan sustained severe injuries after acid was thrown on them by teenage attackers in Waterford.
The family appealed the decision that the attackers be treated as juveniles instead of facing criminal charges, and took judicial review proceedings in the High Court against an Garda Síochána.
The two cases were settled last week, with Drew Harris agreeing to pay all legal costs.
