Former Waterford Independent TD Matt Shanahan has lost out in his bid for a seat in Seanad Éireann.

He had contested the race for a position on the Industrial and Commercial panel.

After counting concluded last night following count 24, the following were elected:  Sharon Keogan, Aidan Davitt, Mary Fitzpatrick, Garret Kelleher, Linda Nelson Murray, Laura Harmon, Frances Patricia Black, Ollie Crowe, and Conor Murphy,

Candidates to have been eliminated along with Matt Shanahan were Sinéad Lucey Brennan, Declan Burgess, Danny Byrne, Adrian Cummins, Alan Farrell, Kate Feeney, David Fitzgerald, Vanessa Foran, Joan Hopkins, Gerry Horkan, Joe Kelly, Donal Kissane, Tony Mulcahy, Michael Naughton, David Pratt, Dee Ryan, and Mary Seery Kearney.

On Friday, Independent Waterford Councillor Joe Conway secured a seat on the Cultural and Educational panel.
