Waterford City and County Council was successful in a grant application from the Office of Public Works (OPW) under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.
The purpose of the scheme is to undertake minor flood mitigation studies or works to address flooding and coastal protection issues.
Following Storm Babet in October 2023, which resulted in significant flood damage to West Street in Tallow, Malachy Walsh & Partners (MWP), on behalf of Waterford City and County Council, will undertake a topographical / hydrographical survey of the area to investigate flooding issues, identify potential feasible solutions, and prepare a flood defence options report.
The survey works will be undertaken using an aerial drone and will commence today, Friday April 3rd and will take one day to complete. Additionally, the topographical / hydrographical survey will commence on April 13th and take three to five days to complete.
The drone aspect of the survey will entail surveilling of the river and landholdings adjacent to the river. Landowners within the topographical / hydrographical survey area are requested to allow access to private gardens. Time required in each individual property will be limited.
The data collected will subject to appropriate security arrangements and will only be used for the purpose of compiling the flood defence study.
Waterford City and County Council appreciates the public’s assistance in this matter.
