Bricks were hurled at firefighters in Waterford recently as they attempted to deal with a number of deliberate fires started by youths across various Waterford City estates.
Sinn Fein Councillor John Hearne has led calls for the behaviour to come to a stop - before someone is seriously hurt.
Over the course of the weekend, the Millbrook area was subjected to instances of anti-social behaviour, with bins being stolen and then set on fire.
Speaking to WLR News, Cllr. Hearne made an appeal to those responsible and their parents to bring the issue to an end.
"The reason that the Gardai have to come is because the firefighters were assaulted before - they had bricks thrown at them and they were assaulted. We really value our firemen, and the thought that anybody would commit criminal damage - then rob their neighbour's bins, set them on fire and assault firemen, it's nuts stuff. We need to put the boot into this as best we can."
Cllr. Hearne confirmed that additional Gardai will be deployed to relevant areas during the Halloween period.
"They're determined to get a grip on this. It's just a waste of everybody's time and energy. There's just no need for it and the sooner we put the boot into it the better because we can't have it continuing the way that it is - it's just nonsense."
