Fire crews attending blaze at Co Waterford chipper

Update 2.00 pm:

Emergency services remain at the scene of a fire in Kilmeaden in County Waterford this afternoon.

Waterford City and County Fire Service were alerted to the blaze at the chipper next to the Sweep Garage at 11.15 am this morning.

Fire crews from Tramore, Portlaw and Waterford City responded.

The fire has now been extinguished however, extensive damage has been caused to the building.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The road through Kilmeaden has reopened but the R681 to Bonmahon will remain closed for some time.

Emergency services are at the scene of a fire in Kilmeaden in County Waterford.

It broke out at the chipper in the village shortly after 11 o'clock this morning.

Two units of the Fire Service from Tramore and Portlaw were first to arrive.

They have since been joined by a hydraulic platform and another fire appliance from Waterford City.

The road through Kilmeaden has now been closed to traffic, Gardai are appealing to people to avoid the area.
