The 16 people found alive in a container on board a ferry from France are being medically assessed at Rosslare Port in Co Wexford.
Gardaí have detained the articulated truck, and say its driver and owners are cooperating with their investigation.
The captain of the Stena Horizon, which set sail from Cherbourg to Rosslare last night, alerted Gardai at around 9:45 this morning that a number of people had been discovered alive in the trailer of a truck on board.
They were taken out of the sealed container and given blankets and refreshments.
The ship arrived in Rosslare earlier than expected this afternoon, where Gardaí and ambulance crews were waiting to board.
All the individuals appear in good health.
Garda Immigration Officers are assessing their immigration status.
Gardaí will give more information at a press conference later tonight.
