A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a man in Portlaw, Co Waterford yesterday.
John Butler, who was aged 48, was found with serious injuries at a house on Brown Street in the town, but later passed away in hospital.
A 21-year-old man, who was known to the victim, was arrested at the scene and brought to Tramore Garda Station.
He was charged this morning and is due to appear at Carrick-on-Suir District Court this afternoon.
Fianna Fáil TD, Mary Butler, says the incident has shocked the local community:
"Portlaw is a small town with a population of between 1,600 and 1,700 people. I've lived here all my life. It's a small town with a fantastic community. The man involved was a quiet man; you would always see him walking his two dogs. I spoke with one of his neighbours and they said he was a very, very good neighbour."
