Farmers end blockade at Port of Waterford over imported grain

A blockade by farmers at Waterford Port has been stood down.

Up to 40 members of the IFA staged at protest at Belview over the importation of foreign grain.

A ship with around 1,500t of grain arrived at the port on Thursday night.

The blockade came to an end at around 7.00 pm yesterday evening after farmers secured a meeting with Boortmalt, the company behind the shipment.

The company issued a statement saying the shipment was Irish barley which was malted in Antwerp.
