An eye-catching mural is the latest addition to historic County Waterford pub Haughton’s which re-opened last year – with further additions to the popular venue planned.

The mural, created by Laura Dempsey, is visible to motorists travelling along the N25 Waterford to Dungarvan road as they pass the well-known pub which is located near Carroll’s Cross.

Haughton’s re-opened last year after thirteen locals came together with the aim of preserving the popular pub and bringing it into a new era.

Speaking to WLR News this week one of those involved in the project, Ben O’Donnell, said they have received huge support.

“The pub’s doors reopened almost six months ago and the support that we have received thus far from both locals and those travelling from further afield has been tremendous,” he said.

“From Christmas parties to quiet Sunday pints to post-match celebrations, people have really turned out in spades to support the pub. Christmas was a particularly special time in the pub, with the pub providing the ideal meet-up spot for people to catch up after a busy year and reconnect with family, neighbours, and old friends.  The Parlour Room in the pub has also borne witness to some seriously talented singers and musicians since we have reopened, with the likes of The Renegades, Mark Atkins, Woody, and Modern Dilemma raising-the-roof almost every Saturday night.”

Having almost got to grips with all the many tasks involved in running a pub, Ben says attention has now turned to trying to make some gentle improvements while also retaining the unique character and old-world charm for which the pub is known.

“Our very own and extraordinarily gifted Laura Dempsey (@laudempseydesigner) recently completed a mural on the east-facing gable-end of the building featuring the Guinness Toucan, which we are extraordinarily pleased with,” says Ben.

“We are also in the process of building-up a new courtyard bar and improved outdoor seating area, which we hope to have open by St. Patrick’s weekend. We hope that this will add to the Haughton’s experience over the (hopefully sunny) Spring and Summer months. We would like to thank each and every person who has visited the pub since we reopened, and especially thank all the tradesmen, suppliers, artists, and locals who have lent a hand along the way.”
