More than 3,500 people have registered for this weekend’s Solas Cancer Support Centre Run and Walk for Life 2025.

The annual event begins in Dungarvan on Saturday at 10am and continues in Waterford City on Sunday morning. It will once again bring communities across the South East together to support people and families affected by cancer. The Solas Cancer Support Centre offers free emotional, practical, and therapeutic services to anyone living with or impacted by cancer.

Local Businesses Support Solas Cancer Support Centre Run and Walk for Life

In the lead-up to the Run and Walk for Life 2025, local businesses have hosted Go Orange for Solas fundraising days. These events raise vital funds and awareness for the charity while encouraging staff to show their support.

Maeve Breathnach, Senior HR Business Partner at Eirgen, said the partnership felt natural for the company:

“The Solas Centre is a local charity and we want to partner with local charities. Unfortunately, we all have our own personal experiences with Solas, and it ties into the work we do here in Eirgen — so it was a natural fit.”

Community Spirit Shines at Solas Cancer Support Centre Run and Walk for Life

Adrian Dower said the cause touches almost every family in Waterford:

“There aren’t many families who haven’t benefited from Solas services. My mam had breast cancer a few years ago, and the support she and the whole family received was incredible. It’s nice to be able to give back.”

Anne Marie Darby, Director at MK Brazil, said her team is proud to take part each year:

“Solas is a special one here — everyone has been touched by cancer. When you walk into the centre, they make you feel so calm. It’s a great charity doing incredible work.”

Meanwhile, SuperValu HyperCentre is supporting participants on the day.
Store Manager Pat Sinnott said:

“It’s an amazing cause. We’ll be giving out refreshments to those taking part in the run and walk — we’re just glad to support them.”

His colleague Marie Dalton shared a personal reason for getting involved:

“I lost my mam to cancer in 2010, and I know many others going through it. Solas really helps people feel at ease during an incredibly hard time.”
