A lucky EuroMillions player in Munster has become Ireland’s biggest ever lottery winner, claiming the maximum jackpot of €250 million.
The National Lottery confirmed the golden ticket was purchased in a retail store in the province. The winner is now being advised to stay calm, sign the back of the ticket, and store it securely.
“This is absolutely phenomenal,” said National Lottery spokesperson Emma Monaghan. “As soon as we received confirmation of the win, it was all hands on deck. We’re absolutely thrilled for the winner.”
This historic win surpasses the €175 million taken home by the Naul family syndicate in 2019, making it the largest lottery prize ever won in Ireland.
“It’s a life-changing amount of money,” Monaghan added. “Whoever holds that ticket now holds a piece of Irish lottery history.”
