€1.7million granted for works at Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre

€1.7million granted for works at Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre

Over €1.7 million is to be invested in Dunmore East's fishery harbour centre this year.

It's part of a €35 million pot announced by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for the country's six state-owned centres.

In 2020 the Irish seafood industry was valued at just over a billion euro.

90% of all fish that were landed into Ireland, arrived at the country's Fishery Harbour Centres.

Among the projects covered by the €1.7 million for Dunmore East is the extension of the West Wharf Fishing Pontoon.

Half a million is being put towards X-block protection of the East Pier breakwater, while 300,000 is to be spent on water metering.

A further 200,000 will upgrade the workshop there.

The lion's share of the funding announced for the six centres is going to Castletownbere, where 10.8 million will help complete a flagship project extending the quay there.
