€1.6 million for infrastructure improvements in Waterford

Over 1.6 million euro for crucial infrastructure works has been allocated for projects across Waterford.

It's part of government jobs stimulus funding with 22 councils getting 33 million euro for active travel projects and 14 million euro's going to 26 local authorities for climate change adaptation steps.

The local projects include 240 thousand for road widening and a new cycleway in Knockanduff Tramore, 140 thousand for footpath improvement in Dungarvan and 90 thousand to fix defective footpaths in Clashmore.

The climate initiatives set to benefit Waterford at a cost of almost half a million include 150 thousand euro to fix the sea wall in Tramore and 100 thousand for drainage works to mitigate flooding in Ardmore.

Welcoming this news Cllr Eamon Quinlan, the Fianna Fail representative for Tramore said "This is very welcome money and will allow our engineers complete several needed projects. The largest allocation of 240k will be used to connect the 150 house, estate of Cluain Larach to the rest of Tramore with a footpath and pedestrian crossing. While 150k will be used to repair the partially collapsed sea wall along the prom in Tramore. This sea wall has been repeatedly damaged recently during strong storms."
