Waterford is hosting the Dutch Ambassador to Ireland today.

Ambassador Adrian Palm visited the forthcoming Continental Cheese Plant in Belview this morning before a lunchtime meeting with Waterford Chamber.

Speaking with WLR News, he says the plant will be fully operational by 2024 when the first cheese will be produced using Dutch technology.

He added: "I went up there this morning and had a discussion last-night with A-Ware, the company partnered with Tirlán which was previously Glanbia.

"Visiting the plants construction, I can see how fast the process is moving along since the groundbreaking works since June last year."

"The cheese is going to be sold internationally and not just in Ireland. Sold all over the world, it is a great collaboration between the Irish and the Dutch.

"It is looking very good to have the first cheese roll off the factory line in early 2024."

The Ambassador also commented on his love for Waterford and the opportunities that the county has to offer.

He continued to say: "What is not to love about Waterford. It has a great history great enthusiastic people, great weather great culture and a very prominent entrepreneurial spirit.

"You can see people here doing business with the Netherlands and it is great to see. You can also notice the opportunities on offer in Waterford.

"Waterford now has its own university and this is a great opportunity for the people of Waterford to move forward."
