A converted shipping container is the centrepiece of a new outside garden bar created at The Park Hotel & Leisure Centre, Dungarvan.
The hotel has invested €27,000 in the new space in response to increased demand for outdoor drinks and dining.
A disused shipping container has been repurposed into a high-end outdoor bar nestled amongst mature trees on the grounds of the Hotel, which includes over 5 acres of landscaped gardens and views of the Colligan river estuary.
In addition to the shipping container conversion, the area has been landscaped with additions of raised bedding, outdoor seating on the terrace, and a selection of large wooden barrels and picnic tables.
Brainchild of Hotel General Manager Declan Moriarty, Delcan said it took months of planning to convert and upgrade the green space on the grounds into a bar area. The hotel purchased the shipping container pre used from a local supplier, prepared the ground, and then winched the twenty by ten metre metal container onto the site, making sure not to damage any of the existing mature trees. They then tackled the even larger task of converting the container into a fully equipped bar complete with plumbing and electricity. A large panel was cut out from the front of the container to create an open bar area with a polished live edge wood countertop.
Commenting on the project Declan Moriarty, General Manager of the Park Hotel, Dungarvan said:
“We are hugely proud of our quirky garden bar and definitely feel it’s Waterford’s best Outdoor bar’. It isn’t something you see too often; a shipping container that pops up in between the leafy shade of mature trees, accented by twinkling lights overhead and picnic tables below.
"It took a lot of teamwork, physical and mental effort to implement this vision along with several late nights with sleeves rolled up but it was all worth it to transform an unused area of the hotel grounds into a whole new business opportunity and an added amenity for hotel guests and visitors. I think the effect is just magical and it has been very well received by guests so far.”
Declan says he expects demand to remain strong for outdoor drinking and dining and the hotel will continue to invest in its outdoor facilities.
