An appeal has been lodged by local residents against a 40-home housing development which has been granted planning permission by Waterford City and County Council.

Conditional planning permission had been granted to applicants Francis and Bernie Dwane in August of this year for the 40-home development at lands in Kilminion South, Ballinroad.

Plans include 14 four-bed homes, 12 three-bed homes and 12 two-bed homes and all associated site works.

The development has now been appealed by those living in the vicinity who have cited a number of concerns in their submissions.

Residents have noted a potential adverse impact on the nearby traffic volume, as well as raising privacy concerns - saying the proposed 40-home development "will have a clear and obvious negative impact on all existing houses."

Those who have appealed the development acknowledged that there is a serious need to supply homes in Dungarvan and West Waterford, but noted that it must be a case where " it does not result in negative impact on the existing immediately adjacent dwellings."

A decision is due from An Bord Pleanala by January 28th 2025.
