Waterford Council are currently in talks to purchase a prominent site in Dungarvan.
The former Dungarvan Crystal Sports Club site in Kilrush had previously been used by Dungarvan United AFC.
Waterford City and County Council have confirmed to WLR that 'dicussions are ongoing' to purchase the former Dungarvan Crystal Sports Club site in Kilrush.
The soccer club began leasing the grounds from owners Dungarvan Crystal in the late 1980s.
The pitch was included in part of a 3.5 acre site owned by the crystal production company.
The factory closed in 2009, but receivers Deloitte dismissed the agreement as non-binding and declined rent.
Dungarvan AFC, however, continued to use the playing surface.
It is hoped that the site can be used once again by Dungarvan United, but it has also been reported that the site could also be sought to address local housing needs.
