An Bord Pleanala have upheld a decision to deny planning permission for a ten-storey apartment and leisure complex at the junction of Davitts Quay and Walsh Street in Dungarvan.

Developer Michael Ryan had appealed a decision by Waterford Council to reject proposed plans for a 10-storey apartment and leisure complex on the site of 'Bridge House' on Davitts Quay.

He proposed demolishing Bridge House - a former office site for the local creamery - and building a 66-bedroom hotel across nine stories, with a function room, exhibition area and dining areas included.

However, An Bord Pleanala said the design and scale of the development would be out of character with the area.

There were also concerns that there would be zero on-site parking at the hotel.

Mr Ryan's appeal argued that the impact of the hotel would not be of any detriment and that potential traffic issues could be resolved.

The board felt that it would seriously detract from the area.

An Bord Pleanala are also currently considering another appeal from Mr. Ryan regarding a 40-bedroom boutique hotel in the town.
