The Justice Minister has confirmed that there has been a delay in the introduction of mandatory Covid testing for all passengers flying into the country.

The measure was supposed to come into effect from today (Friday), but has been delayed by 48 hours.

The ruling requires all international arrivals to show proof of a negative antigen test taken within the previous 48 hours, or a negative PCR taken within the previous 72 hours.

However, an Aer Lingus spokesperson told RTÉ News this morning,  that they were informed last night by the Government that the new rules would come into force on Sunday instead.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee said the delay was not intentional, but rather down to paperwork, "obviously there's a lot of work has to go into regulations between a number of different departments."

Yesterday on Deise Today, travel journalist Eoghan Corry answered a number of questions about Covid testing for passengers flying into Ireland. More here.
