Following almost a decade of protests, picketers outside a Waterford city hospital will soon disband when construction begins later this month at the site.
The protests began after a 19-bed ward in Saint Patrick's Hospital was closed due to fire safety concerns in 2008.
Since then, over twenty men have gathered every Tuesday afternoon to picket at the hospital, which provides adult care.
That vigil is now coming to an end thanks to the recent announcment of a 100-bed unit costing 19 million euros, with construction set to commence on the 15th of September.
Former Waterford city councillor Davey Walsh said the group had felt betrayed over the years, but was happy there was finally an end in sight.
