Warm tributes have been paid following the death of Sr Annunciata O’Grady who served in Waterford for many years.
Known fondly as Sr Nuncie to many, she was well-known in Waterford City where she ran a pre-school at St John of God for many years.
Sr Nuncie also worked with the elderly and the sick in the local community, and was often seen cycling to St Patrick's Hospital and Ardkeen to carry out her work.
In paying tribute, Principal of St John of God, Bríd Golden said: "Many St John of God girls and boys received their pre-school education in Sr Nuncie's kind and caring nursery in the room which is now our computer room. She always had a bag of jellies with her and gave them to all the children she encountered throughout the day. Many will recall Sr Nuncie giving them jellies well into their adult lives!"
She added: "Sr Nuncie loved babies. The beautiful crochet blankets she made for new babies all over Waterford city will be treasured. A true angel, Sr Nuncie showed us all what it is like to walk in the footsteps of St John of God. It was a privilege for all of us who were fortunate to know her. Ní bheidh a leitheid ann arís."
Originally from County Mayo, Sr Nuncie moved from Waterford to the St John of God Convent in Wexford some years ago.
Sr Nuncie will be reposing in Sallyville House Convent Chapel in Wexford from 3pm today (Sunday) with evening prayers at 6pm.
Her funeral mass will be held on Monday 8th January at 11am in Sallyville House. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
May She Rest in Peace.
