Anna Dawson has landed her first major Irish senior title following a titanic battle in the AIG Irish Women’s Close Championship at Ardee Golf Club.

The Tramore golfer survived a spirited fightback by Holly Hamilton of Belvoir Park to take the title with a win on the final hole of a thrilling final.

Dawson came through this morning’s semi final with a three and two win over Irish Girls Champion Zoe McLean-Tattan of Romford and started the final in style with three wins in her opening six holes to open up a solid four up lead by the tenth.

The Belfast golfer refused to give up and wins at the 11th, 14th, 15th and 17th saw the match level as they played the last.

Hamilton fired her approach through the green, with Dawson safely on the green and when she sent her third shot well past the hole and could only bogey, Dawson had a short putt for victory.

The win comes at the perfect time for Dawson as she heads to Woodhall Spa in England next week to represent Ireland in the Home Internationals.
