Fine Gael Councillor Damien Geoghegan has been elected unopposed as Cathaoirleach of the Dungarvan and Lismore district of Waterford Council.
James Tobin of Fianna Fail was elected Leas Cathaoirleach.
Absolutely honoured and indeed humbled to be unanimously elected Cathaoirleach of Dungarvan/Lismore District Council at today’s AGM. I want to thank my colleagues and wish them the very best, as we look forward to the new Council settling down to work. @WaterfordCounci pic.twitter.com/BGb5MaiB2e

Councillor Geoghegan says it’s important they work together as a unit of nine:
“We’ve nine councillors here now – six of us were elected in the Dungarvan electoral area, three in the Lismore electoral area – but we come together as a council.
He says the districts cover a huge area: “It’s a very strong mix of urban and rural and there are plenty of challenges. It’s the entire west Waterford area we cover here, and i’m looking forward to getting stuck in over the next five years.
“We have a county development plan that we must get stuck into now and of course the success of the greenway it has brought challenges aswell, so i’m looking forward to getting to work”.
