The number of crimes recorded in Waterford City has risen significantly in the last four years.
That's according to newly obtained figures from the Irish Independent.
East Waterford
Waterford Garda Station has seen a surge in crime from about 3,700 incidents in 2019 to about 4,000 incidents in 2023.
These include 364 assaults or threats, 115 burglaries, 401 drugs cases, 441 incidents of criminal damage or arson, 126 dangerous driving incidents, 176 frauds, 733 public order cases, 36 robberies and 1,360 thefts,
The offences exclude homicide, sexual and most other traffic offences, and were obtained from the CSO and An Garda Síochána sources.
Crime figures have also increased significantly in Portlaw - while they have also risen in Dunmore East, Ferrybank and Kilmeaden.
The rate of crime fell by 13% in Tramore across this period, while it also fell in Passage.
West Waterford
There have been significant spikes in criminal incidents in Dungarvan, Kilmacthomas, Lismore, Portlaw, Tallow, and Waterford City.
That's when comparing 2019 to 2023.
In Dungarvan, approximately 1,019 incidents were reported last year - compared to 860 four years prior.
These include 135 assaults or threats, 20 burglaries, 164 drugs offences, 110 reports of criminal damage or arson, 47 dangerous driving incidents, 39 frauds, 125 public order incidents, 10 robberies and 321 thefts.
The crime rate has almost tripled in Tallow, while it has almost doubled in Lismore (50 rising to 98) as well as rising in Kilmacthomas, Aglish and Cappoquin.
