Waterford City South remains the local electoral area (LEA) in Ireland with the highest incidence rate of Covid-19 for the fourth week in a row.
There were 333 cases in the two weeks to Monday November 1st, giving a rate of 1,481.6 per 100,000 people.
However, this is a decrease on the previous fortnight when there were 376 cases.
The area with the second highest incidence rate is Lismore where 131 cases pushes the rate to 1,221.6.
The national average is 695.
Elsewhere in Waterford, Tramore/City West saw a small decrease from 246 cases to 231, giving a rate of 1,032.5.
All other areas had rises in case numbers: Portlaw/Kilmacthomas had 179 cases in the two-week period and a rate of 1,045.6; Dungarvan jumped from 90 cases to 140 and now has a rate of 683; and Waterford City East, which had 278 cases to give a rate of 1,209.4.
Hospitalisations
While case numbers have been extremely high in Waterford recently, the General Manager of University Hospital Waterford pointed out to staff that the cases were not resulting in a high level of hospitalisations.
In an email, Ms Rothwell stated that "there were 3,726 new cases detected on Tuesday 2nd of November nationally, this volume of new cases compares to the 18th of January 2021.
"On the 18th of January 2021 we in University Hospital Waterford had 134 patients on a Covid Pathway, 117 of which were positive.
"On Tuesday 2nd of November 2021 we had 24 patients on a Covid Pathway, 12 of which were positive.
"This comparison very much supports the premise that the vaccine is effective, that vaccine is resulting in fewer hospitalisations !!!
"However, we all still need to adhere to the public health advice in terms of hand hygiene, mask wearing, social distancing, minimising social contacts etc".
As of 8pm on Thursday evening, there were 17 covid positive patients in UHW, two are being treated in ICU.
