An outbreak of Covid-19 has been confirmed at a nursing home in Waterford city.
Waterford Nursing Home confirmed to WLR that nine residents and "a number of staff" have tested positive.
Residents who are positive or displaying symptoms have been moved to an isolation area which has dedicated staff.
All other residents are self-isolating as a precaution where possible.
The outbreak at the nursing home, which is on the Dunmore Road and run by Mowlam Healthcare, is the first it has recorded. It has space available for 60 residents.
Mass testing took place on Tuesday after positive cases were confirmed among two residents and a number of staff.
Director of nursing Joseph Mooney said it is expected that all residents and staff will be tested weekly for the next month, at least, until the home is declared free of the virus.
He added that the nursing home is working with the HSE and other agencies in response to the outbreak.
