The number of patients with Covid-19 at University Hospital Waterford has fallen below 100 for the first time in almost three weeks.
For 17 days in a row, since the 15th of January, the staff at University Hospital Waterford were caring for more than 100 patients with Covid-19.
According to the HSE, there were 98 patients on-site at 8 o'clock last night. That's down from 107 on Sunday night.
However, University Hospital Waterford had the highest amount of patients with the virus in the country at the time.
Connolly Hospital in Dublin was second with 89 followed by CUH in Cork with 88.
Meanwhile, a doctor at University Hospital Waterford has appealed to the Minister for Health to adopt a Zero Covid strategy.
In a letter published in the Waterford News & Star, the unnamed frontline worker said they can no longer accept what is going on.
Their team has been wiped out with one person doing the work of five and the doctor said they are working 78 hours this week and are exhausted.
They said they look at their list of elderly patients and see that many of them have actually picked up Covid in the hospital and are now dying.
