A County Waterford sports club has been subjected to further vandalism.

Windows were smashed at the Cappoquin Railway Football Club in recent days which is the latest anti-social incident to occur at the grounds.

This has forced the club to reconsider future use of its facilities.

In a statement, the club said: "There is a lot of work going on around the club grounds improving a walkway for the locals to use. However due to this ongoing issue we as a club may need to look at locking up the facilities including the astro-turf each evening which is something we do not want to do. Unfortunately the club will be out of pocket yet again for acts of anti-social behavior so we are appealing to anyone who may have or know someone who has access to Perspex or scrap bits lying around in a shed that aren't needed. We really do not want to have to lock up the lovely facilities we have which see so many kids and adults enjoy both the astro and walkway."

The statement added: "With summer camp starting, this is not what we want to see being done to the clubhouse and it is becoming very disheartening for the committee and club members who are all involved on a voluntary basis."

Sinn Fein Councillor in the Lismore District Donnchadh Mulcahy is urging people to support the club.

"It's a real pity this has happened again," he told WLR News.

"If anyone has any information please contact the Gardaí. There's a strong community base in Cappoquin with so much good work going on at the moment. It's unfortunate anti-social behaviour is happening."
