The countdown is officially on for the 14th Waterford Viking Marathon, as WLR FM’s flagship running event returns bigger, better, and more inclusive than ever.
Taking place over two action-packed days, the event will welcome more than 5,500 participants. As a result, Waterford will once again transform into a vibrant festival of running, colour, and celebration.
Festivities begin on Saturday, the 20th, with the ever-popular Children’s Run at the Waterford Regional Sports Centre. Then, on Sunday the 21st, the streets of the city will come alive. Runners will take part in the Full Marathon, Full Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, 10km, and the much-loved Waterford Run for All. Formerly known as the Disability Friendly Run, the event is now in its third year and continues to celebrate accessibility for runners of all abilities.

However, the Waterford Viking Marathon is about more than just racing. Instead, it is a true celebration of community. Along the route, participants and spectators can enjoy live bands, DJs, and entertainment. Meanwhile, a party atmosphere will greet runners at both the start and finish lines. Inclusivity, enjoyment, and community spirit remain at the heart of the event.
Once again, the marathon benefits from the continued support of WLR FM as title sponsor, alongside new official partner Sanofi. In addition, backing from Waterford City Council, Clem Jacob Hire, Sun Life, Bausch and Lomb, Azzurri, and new sponsor Jabil plays a vital role in the event’s success. This year’s chosen charity partner is the RNLI, with all funds raised going directly to the Waterford lifeboat stations.
With its unique blend of sport, celebration, and inclusivity, the 2026 Waterford Viking Marathon promises an unforgettable weekend for runners, families and the wider community.
