Calls have been made for more funding for a popular County Waterford festival. The Comeraghs Wild Festival took place in July - and will celebrate its tenth anniversary next year.

Speaking during a budget discussion at this month's Comeragh District meeting of Waterford Council, Labour Councillor Ger Barron made the case for additional support.

"It's the tenth anniversary of the first Comeragh Wild festival. It's the only festival we have in the whole Comeragh area that is funded by Waterford City and County Council.

"I am not sure if people are aware, but there are plans for an expanded festival next year."

Fine Gael Councillor Seanie Power added that the festival brings a positive uplift to rural areas of Co. Waterford.

"The Comeragh Wild Festival was a huge success the past couple of years. It brings a great uplift to the villages, and I know members of the committee were anxious to expand it for a week this year and see how it goes and increase a lot more events in the festival."
