A Waterford Councillor has welcomed funding for a walkway along the Waterford estuary.

It was announced last week that the Minaun and Whortle Walk is set to receive €81,760 as part of the Outdoor Recreation Measure 2 allocation.

This project upgrades and links two existing walks in The Estuary Area to National Trails Office standard, improving accessibility, safety and signage on the walks. This will link Passage East to Cheekpoint in addition to enhancing the walks around Faithlegg and the Minuan.

Fianna Fail’s Eddie Mulligan says “this strategic and collaborative thinking in relation to the investment of monies in the Coastal and Estuary area communities will see a greater enhancement of the County’s hidden tourism gems.”

“The improved connectivity and investment in these walks will complement the Greenway offering for recreational visitors to our beautiful County to prolong their stay and ensure a greater distribution of spend, whilst they enjoy our Walks and Trails” added Councillor Mulligan.
