A local councillor has called for the reinstatement of the Goff Track in Waterford’s People’s Park.

Fine Gael’s Frank Quinlan believes a multi-purpose walking, running and cycling track in the area would add to the area’s offering.

He outlined his views at the April plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council and highlighted the proximity of many schools which could benefit.

“All of these schools are looking for places to incorporate physical education into their curriculum,” he said.

Cllr Quinlan believes a 400m gravel track could be developed if relevant drainage works were carried out and he highlighted potential funding streams available.

The Goff Track was an activity track which was a popular feature of the area for many years and featured high profile cycling events.
