A Sinn Fein Councillor from Waterford says it’s the wrong job to be in if you don’t love people (and animals).

John Hearne is out canvassing in Waterford City South ahead of the elections on May 24th.

He helped an unusual “constituent” yesterday.

“I came across a little starling. I have him in my pocket.

“He was after being attacked so we have to bring him home and mind him.

“Previously I had a little hedgehog, I used to call him ‘Súil Amháin’ because he only had one eye – he was attacked by a badger.

“He got fixed up and headed on his merrily way, hopefully the bird will fly soon.”

Councillor Hearne says the canvass is going well.

“I’m canvassing on my own at the moment in the mornings because you have more time to spend with people and find out exactly what is going on.

“You’ve more time to talk to people – it’s a people business. If you love people, it’s a great business to be in.

“If you don’t it really is the wrong job.”
