Independent Councillor for Tramore and Waterford City West, Joe Kelly has announced his intention to run for the Seanad.
Cllr Kelly is currently the Mayor of the Metropolitan district of Waterford.
He told WLR he has received and accepted a nomination from the Institute of Industrial Engineers and Safety Management Systems.
"I'm very happy that they felt I was the person to propose. It's on the industrial and commercial panel," he said.
Cllr Kelly however, stated it will be a challenge to gain entry to Seanad Éireann.
"It's not easy. It's a probably more difficult even than a general election."
However, Cllr Kelly is not the sole runner from County Waterford.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association had nominated Matt Shanahan for the Industrial and Commercial panel.
