Waterford Council are the rightful owners of the bridge leading into the former GasWorks on Waterside.
This follows yesterday's news that the ownership of the controversial bridge was not owned by Waterford Council, but in fact by Gas Works Ireland.
The Council have now clarified the matter and have stated ownership of both Waterside bridges.
In the region of €600,000 euro has been spent on the bridge and in the carpark since its renovation in 2017, however the footbridge has been closed since 2021.
Speaking on Deise Today, local councillor Frank Quinlan says he sought clarification from Council executives.
He said: "Since then, I spoke to Fergus Galvin and he told me Waterford Council own both bridges and are responsible for the 2017 renovations and they worked with Gas Networks Ireland on a 50/50 basis to renovation the carpark and the lighting."
Confusion seems to have arisen as Fergus Galvin was not at Monday's Metropolitan meeting and therefore Council executives present may not have been best placed to answer the question regarding ownership.
Councillor Frank Quinlan says a further assessment of the safety features of the bridge is due to be carried out with a view to reopening the footbridge.
It has been closed since 2021 amid reports of slippages and safety risks.
