Controlled explosion carried out in Waterford

The Army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion on a suspect device in Waterford this evening.
The object was found in the laneway to the rear of a house at Central Avenue, Lisduggan this afternoon.
Gardai were alerted around 1.10m and they cordoned off the area before requesting the services of the Army EOD.
The team travelled from Cork and arrived at the scene shortly before 5.00pm.
They carried out a controlled explosion of the device and declared the scene safe shortly before 8.00pm.
It’s not known whether the device was viable.
