
A new Active Travel scheme is set to commence construction in Tramore.
The Tramore Ring Road Active Travel Scheme includes a dedicated two-way cycle track, safer junctions for pedestrians and cyclists, new pedestrian crossings, and improved links to existing footpaths and nearby housing estates.
The scheme is being delivered by Waterford City and County Council.
Approximately €5.5 million in funding allocated for its construction by the National Transport Authority.
Contractor on site
Glas Civil Engineering Ltd. has been appointed as the main contractor and works have commenced on site.
The works will span the Tramore Ring Road and the urban area of the Fenor Road.
Completion is expected within 18 months.
A traffic management system will be in place during the works.

Speaking at the commencement of works, the newly elected Mayor of Waterford City and County Council Cllr. Séamus Ryan said: “The Tramore Ring Road Active Travel Scheme is a very positive and progressive project for Tramore. Not only will it encourage active travel and healthy lifestyles, but it will also improve safety and accessibility for all road users. It’s a welcome investment in the town’s future and the well-being of our community.”

It reflects our commitment to leading on climate action targets while also enhancing quality of life for our citizens through forward-thinking transport planning.”
Michael Murphy, Active Travel Senior Engineer at Waterford City and County Council, added: “The Tramore Ring Road Active Travel Scheme is part of an Active Travel network of routes being delivered by the local authority aimed at making walking and cycling attractive modes of transport. The dedicated cycling infrastructure will be a huge boost for vulnerable road users and will encourage more people to travel in an active manner.”
The Tramore Ring Road is one of several Active Travel schemes and initiatives being rolled out across Waterford.
